If you are participating in a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad program, please access the scholarships available to you via your GlobaLinks Learning Abroad MyLearn account. Within your MyLearn account, you will also find the specific application form on which you must apply.
General Eligibility Requirements
- At the time of applying for any of the Foundation scholarships, you must be enrolled in a US college or university where transfer credit from an academic program abroad will be applied to your US degree being earned.
- You must be a US citizen
- Your class standing is one of the following:
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Medical School
- Law School
- Graduate School
- Community College or Junior College
- You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0
Your transcript is a required piece of the application. It must list 1) the name of the institution, 2) your full name, 3) your declared major (applicable for major-specific scholarship awards), and 4) your cumulative grade point average. - You must be studying abroad for a minimum of 4 weeks, on one of the following programs:
- Academic Semester, Trimester or Quarter Abroad (taking classes at an overseas university)
- Academic Year Abroad (taking classes at an overseas university)
- Service Learning
- Short Term Program (i.e. J-Term or summer programs)
- Other program which meets all eligibility requirements
Over 200 scholarships between $1000 and $2,500 will be awarded this calendar year for U.S. and Canadian citizens. Award amounts will vary. Most awards are $1000. All decisions regarding scholarship awards are those of the Foundation and are final. If awarded a scholarship, you will have one year from the date of your award email to provide the necessary confirmation of participation (and other requested information) to collect your scholarship check from the Foundation.

In addition to the general eligibility requirements, applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Academic Major
Students must be majoring in one of the following areas (academic minors in these areas are not eligible):
- Travel and Tourism
- Foreign Language
At the time of application, all STA Travel Scholar Award applicants must submit the contact details of an academic reference, a professor. Include the name of the professor, title and department, and direct phone number and email address. You should receive the permission of your professor before listing him or her.
If you are chosen as a recipient of this award, you will be required to blog during your time abroad. Detailed requirements for the blog will be provided to you upon notification of the award. You will also be asked to submit a final report outlining the importance of study abroad. Lastly, STA Travel expects you to take photographs and make them available to the company for their promotional use.
STA Travel, Inc. award recipients will receive 80% of their scholarship upon confirmation of participation in program abroad. The remaining 20% will be sent upon completion of program and fulfilling requirements as listed in the above paragraph.
This award is available to students who meet the general eligibility requirements as listed above and can demonstrate financial need through receipt of the PELL grant. Official PELL grant proof must be uploaded to the online application at the time of submission (i.e. Financial Aid Award Letter acknowledging eligibility for the award AND that the student has accepted the award). Be certain your full name and the name of your institution appears on the uploaded documentation. If any of these details do not appear on the document, your application will be excluded from consideration.
Scholarship applicants must meet the above general eligibility requirements and be majoring in the Sciences, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics disciplines, commonly defined or categorized as STEM (the below is a comprehensive list or appropriate majors but is not entirely exhaustive):
Actuarial Science, Acoustical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomechanics, Bioinformatics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computational Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Geographic Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Information Science, Instructional Technology, Mathematical Biology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Neurobiology, Nuclear Physics, Optics, Physics, Robotics, Software Engineering, and Statistics.
This scholarship is specifically made available to local, Colorado student applicants. Students enrolled in a Colorado higher education institution (2-year or 4-year college/university) and who meet the general eligibility requirements as listed above are welcome to apply for this scholarship.
This award is granted to students who self-select themselves within an ethnic minority, for those who do not classify themselves as 'White, not of Hispanic Origin.' Students must meet the general eligibility requirements to apply for this scholarship.

The essay portion of the application is the most scrutinized piece of the application. Please do not take it lightly. Take time to develop a draft and have multiple persons review it and provide you feedback.
